YES go the BB cream! I rarely wear a full face of foundation but have BB cream on most days, with a little powder over top and occasionally blush, bronzer and highlighter if I want to look a little more made-up. I don't think I'd wear makeup all that often if I didn't work in a corporate environment; I've been on holiday since the 23rd of December and aside from Christmas Day itself I haven't worn anything on my face except sunscreen and lip balm.

It is fun, though. It took about 25 years before I saw the fun in it, and now that I have, I really enjoy makeup. YouTube tutorials are the business!

Okay, someone give me the run-down on BB cream! What exactly does it do? Is it just like basically a light foundation type cream? Because this explanation: http://www.thebodyshop.com.au/make-up/bb-creams/tea-tree-flawless-bb-cream.aspx#.VLOcn0shMSE makes it sound very similar (flawless coverage, covers blemishes, get one that matches your skin tone etc) Is there a marked difference in brands? Any recommendations on a cheap one? (I don't know if I'll get it if it's basically the same as foundation or if it'd provide the same sort of service as concealer+powder, but these things are good to know!)

I guess the easiest way to explain it is as a "light foundation type cream", but its also moisturising. It may be best to think of it as somewhere between moisturiser and foundation, good for day things or if you're worried about using foundation. I tend to still use concealer and powder with though. Mine is by Natio, its cheap but I'd recommend it.

Yeah, I don't know much about this kind of stuff but I see it as basically just a tinted moisturiser. I have the Garnier one and I like it, I know a lot of people who use it and rate it over other brands.

Sian, I swear by BB creams because I hate the feeling and look I get with foundation - I have decent skin so there is NO REASON to wear foundation (unless theres something special on like a wedding. thats the extent of my foundation wearing really.)
To be honest, I only got a BB cream because when my hair was red it would bring out all the small imperfections in my skin and I would look like my face was red all the time.

A BB cream is basically a tinted moisturiser so you're getting a lot of things done apparently with the one thing. I like it because mine has SPF, moisturises and tints (so my skin evens out, but doesn't cover completely). I swear by the Garnier one, but saying that since I've been away and I'm a little bit/ alot tanned I've not found the need to use it. The man friend hasn't seen me in it yet, so I might test it one day and see if he notices the difference in my skin! lol.

The body shop one - do you get blemishes Sian? Tea tree oil isnt going to do damage, but at the same time I think something a bit less pimple fighting would be ok. I have this one - http://www.thebodyshop.com.au/make-up/bb-creams/vitamin-e-cool-bb-cream.aspx#.VLWRlIqUdHg - Not fussed on the feel, but that's because I didnt give it a chance to sink in and hated it hahaha. The tint was REALLY LIGHT though so that was good, maybe ill use it now while my skin tone is different.

PS. Not to scare anyone off make up but I am REALLY DIGGING the Australis Contour Pallet! I use it almost daily, not a full on contour but definitely my cheeks and often my forehead and chin/jaw. (I used to use a bronzer daily for my cheeks so its not much different, but this looks maybe a bit more natural.)

BB stands for "blemish balm", so it is effectively a product intended both cosmetically and remedially - they're all moisturising, all have SPF, and all provide at least a little coverage so they can be worn as a lighter alternative to foundation, or as a primer underneath foundation. Better than your average tinted moisturiser simply because they have SPF as well, and are formulated specifically to cover and help with blemishes.

I first used the Garnier one and really liked it, I also rate Lioele Triple the Solution, however both Garnier and Lioele test on animals so I know they'll be out for you Sian. Natio however are cruelty free and their BB cream is really good - that's what I used, same as Subes, before deciding to try Lioele after running out. I'm steering back to owning exclusively cruelty free products though which means the Lioele is on its way out. I really want to try Stila and Too Faced's BB creams, I've heard they're both amazing. The Too Faced one is meant to be particularly good for dry skin which would be perfect for me. (Dry as hell!)

I bought the Natio BB cream today! I freaked out a little as per usual buying it because I always feel like some impostor whenever I buy makeup (which has been pretty much never, so.) I just get SO stressed out and feel really bad, and I had an anxiety attack about fair vs medium tone and did swatches on my hand and couldn't really tell a difference. (I ended up getting the fair one.) But I'm home now and tried it out and it's so easy to put on (thanks YouTube) and not scary at all! And my skin looks the same except a bit more smooth and even? SUCCESS!! I love you all, thanks for walking this big baby through basic girl life stuff xxx

I really wanted to get some NARS Sheer Glow in my life, but I just read that NARS are owned by Shiseido. Waaa!

Why is that a problem that they are owned by Shiseido? I'm genuinely clueless here.

Also NARS are releasing another really good dry skin foundation for Spring 2015 it looks like Sheer Glow except slightly less coverage and more anti-redness/pigmentation focused

How does that work? Less coverage but more pigment correction? Magic? I'll probs buy it anyway because I love sheer glow but maybe would like the new one too?

"lighter coverage" probably wasn't the right word, it's not as ... creamy? like emmolient? it's huge on pigment correction (it also has ingredients in it which are actives ie get rid of your pigmentation long term while wearing it) but it's a really weightless formula. like it wouldn't have nearly the same coverage if you were covering acne/uneven skin (which heavier foundations are obviously way better at) but if you were covering redness/pigmentation/freckles it would be much better with less of a heavy feeling. not that sheer glow feels particularly "heavy" but it is more weightless i believe. sheer glow is a sick as hell foundation though honestly

I may be uneducated on the subject but I thought Shiseido ended animal testing in late 2013 when the EU banned it? They're on PETA's cruelty free list

No, they only reduced their testing. They didn't rule it out completely. They still retail in China, where testing is mandatory.

They're definitely not on PETA's safe list, I just searched for them there and got this result Sad

So I sent an email to Beauty Bay about an order I made and got a generic reply that had NOTHING to do with my question, I replied asking again but now I've read all these reviews about how terrible their customer service is and how so many orders just don't arrive, ugh! I've ordered from them once before and it took like six weeks to get here but otherwise no problems, but now I'm worried.

Oh strange, I've never heard any bad things about Beauty Bay. I've ordered 3 things from there and had no problems, but I guess 3 isn't really that many. I did get something before Christmas that only arrived last week, but it was Christmas so I was expecting it to take longer.

My sis ordered me some things off beauty bay for Christmas, she got one of the three things she ordered in the box with "sorry your other items are on back order" on a note in the box and the other items haven't arrived yet/don't know when or if they will? Piss poor

Greeeeat. Yeah I ordered three things and when I got the shipping notification the quantity shipped for one of them was 0. So I sent a email asking if that item will be shipped separately at a later time and the generic reply I got was something along the lines of: we are unable to look into your order until 20 days from the shipping date. No, that's bullshit. Answer my question! I'm fully prepared to phone then if I have to, it's not that hard to just answer a question.
