I would say that garment is designed for lingerie models. Being on the set of lingerie shoots, male models have to generally wear flesh coloured g-strings, while women wear garments like that. In that situation, you just can't afford to have straps cutting in/sticking out, but it's really unhygienic to go without.

Ahh, that makes sense. Also maybe porn stars and the like? Not for regular day to day wear.
