I don't know if it's obvious, but I kind of need togs.

Thoughts on this? It's NZD $215, but really high quality, made in Australia by an ethical company that is minimal waste, vegan and supports gender equality. (Because I'm one of those people who checks all that shit out now before buying anything new.) So, maybe worth it?

I don't think I could justify spending that much on swimmers but if it ticks all the boxes and you like the design, go for it!

That's my main dilemma, man. It's SO much more than I would usually spend on swimwear, but if it's as good quality as it says, theoretically it'll last years, and maybe be worth it ... I remember feeling this torn about a Seafolly bikini when I was 15, but I bought it on that same rationale and it's still going strong now, 13 years later.

This is an aside from the ethical / sustainability factors, but my Target swimsuit ($40) lasted longer than all the more expensive Surf Brand and Boutique ones I've previously had. Honestly, swimmers are the most unreliable things, you think you're buying quality but one summer later and it's thinned out and the elastane stuff is showing through.

That's what makes me so nervous about buying swimwear in general, you never seem to know what you're getting! There are a couple of brands I'd feel really confident about, like Seafolly - mainly because of my own experience, but then I'm basing that on a bikini I bought 13 years ago, and maybe they're not as good now as they were then? They do seem to get pretty good reviews in general, though.

I wish swimwear was something that came with a warranty.

$215 is a lot for a pair of swimmers. That said, if you think about it in terms of cost-per-wear, it's almost definitely a style that will be flattering and you won't be tired of by next summer. 
Where that theory falls down is, as you said, if it is actually durable and as good quality as they advertise (you could maybe look up reviews), and if you lose/gain weight and they no longer fit. But those are both things you can't really predict, so it is a bit of a gamble.

I guess it boils down to a) Do you actually need new swimmers? b) Do you have that money to spend without sacraficing something else you need/would rather have?

I love this dress so much but it's listed as "one size fits all" and that is not a style where one size fits all would apply.
So I'm not going to buy it because I know that's not going to fit properly, but now I'm looking for a dress like that one.

There's a store near where I used to live that sold heaps of shoes like that, not just ankle boots but knee highs, flats, heels.

I saw those when I was home and I was like YES PLEASE but I had already filled my suitcase full of Kmart shoes. Life is hard.

I feel like it's such a cruel joke the Shopping Gods have played on us, that there is such a thing as well-cut, flattering, high quality, long-lasting clothes, but that they're all sold by places like Country Road where, sure, the cardigan is perfect, literally your dream cardigan, ticks all of your cardigan wishlist check-boxes, but costs $159.

For a cardigan.

And on one hand you're like, well, I spend $30-$60 most years replacing shitty cheap cardigans, that are made of synthetic materials and don't look or feel anywhere near as lush as that cardigan, and that cardigan would probably last years.

But $159?
