HAIR!!

I dyed mine a while ago and I really wanted copper but the girl in the salon was like "no we'll do a darker red on you" and then when it was finished she was like "thank god you didn't complain everyone always makes me do the colour they want and then they get mad when it looks gross" so like... ok? But I still really want copper!

I cut my hair to just above the shoulder and it looks quite good once I've done it properly, but unstraightened it just makes me look like a bird lady and tied up just looks funny! I want to get a permanent straightening treatment but the only ones I can get here just have so many nasties in them, plus they are sooo expensive!

I've had a chat to a really, really good stylist, and we've decided my hair is going to be this length:



And this colour (a few shades lighter copper than I currently am), with some really subtle blonde balayage stuff going on like she has



It's going to cost me a bomb but I'm so excited!

My hair is back to brown and got a wee trim. I thought I'd be bored with it but it looks so mich healthier and it really needed it.

Also, the Argan Oil I bought to keep it healthy came today and I checked with my hairdresser that it wouldn't affect the colour and she was like "No, Argan oil is great! But stay away from coconut oil, it blocks your pores. Save it for cooking"

Murray just started using argan oil on his mane and loves it!

I misguidedly used coconut oil all last weekend and it made my dandruff crazy. I kept trying to treat it with more coconut oil like a fucking idiot.
Agree good for cooking, bad for hair.

Good to know about Argan oil! I was looking at it yesterday but I wasn't sure if it would fuck up my colour (which I pay so much for with my 2 for £6 Superdrug brand hair dye  )

On a scale of 1 to 10, how stupid do you think it would be to get my hair cut at Kenny's Hair Design across the road from work? Kenny is a small Chinese man who has been in business there for about five years. The girls at Forage Café next door, who I adore, all had their cut hair there and say as long as you take a photo, he's great. Just don't expect to communicate in English.

He's cheap and I'm desperate.

I would advise against it just because Hugo went to an asian salon and even though he had a picture, Hugo left complaining. Though the cafe staff have good haircuts and are happy then like Em said the worst thing would be having to wait it to grow back out

Well, they have undercuts... So not terrible, but a very different style to what I'm wanting (effectively a bob/lob thing, which I don't think should be too hard, but you just never know?)

I'm getting a baby undercut and I'm going to an actual hairdresser to do so, I wouldn't trust an asian place!
Can you find a hairdresser from home? Mine works at a salon at day and for extra cash does hair at night for basically the price of the product and a tiny bit extra. (I pay $70 and Im sure getting my medium length hair dyed and trimmed would cost a lot more).

So, after 10 years and 2 months I had my dreads taken out today.

Currently just have a little afro. Planning on going out and buying a hair straightener tonight because it really doesn't work with my face.

Now I'm remembering something I think I chose to forget pre-dreads regarding hairdressers, I feel like I need to take a family tree with me. I'm yet to encounter one who doesn't struggle with the fact that mixed-race people exist. No my hair isn't permed. Yes it's wiry. Yes I swear this is natural. No it has not been chemically treated. Went to talk extensions to someone who apparently is a specialist in curly extensions and she kept holding the European style up against my head and pulling confused faces, then gave me to 20 questions about whether my hair is permed or not, at least 10 of those questions were "Really?", then goes "I think I may need to order in the African-styled ones for you?"

Yeah. Could have told you that. Tried to tell you that, actually.

Anyway, she got me a quote for the European style and it was $1000, so no, even if it were the right ones. She said the African style are usually cheaper though so she will contact me tomrorow with a quote.

Kira I can't remember how expensive he was, but there's a guy called Neel Loves Curls in the Fitzroy area, he is the BEST at understanding all curl types and patterns, he literally only cuts curly hair and he's expert level. First hairdresser I ever had that didn't say "wow your hair is so (insert whatever vaguely offensive curly hair word you want here)". He even runs workshops for preteens to love/accept their curly hair which is cool as heck IMO.
