People who are good at sewing, I need your advice please. Two of my dresses that I really like have broken recently the same way. The little plastic circle bit that attaches the strap to the back of the dress, as shown in the below picture, has snapped on two dresses.
Wardobe Dilemmas - Page 4 Dress10
My question is, if I took it to an alterations place do you think it would be possible to fix it by getting new circle bits (possibly better quality...) and unpicking it in a couple of places? I have one dress in particular that I really love and was pretty sad when it broke.

Yeah, an alterations place would be able to do that for you, and as Jen said, it probably wouldn't even cost much.

Mum went to the shops and I got her to go to an alterations place and ask today...the lady said she could do it, but she said it would be easier to take the plastic bits off, and pin the straps so they were the right length and then sew them to the dress and that would be $15. I'm curious to know how much it'd be to get new plastic bits though, but of course Mum didn't ask Rolling Eyes lol

That might be a better idea if it's happened twice the plastic ring breaking

Yeah that's true actually. I'll do that. Now it's just a matter of getting Mum to pin the straps at the right length for me...

Yeah, sewing will be much better, and $15 isn't too bad if you consider the alternative would be to buy a new dress.

I reckon you could get by with black pants and a nice top.

Or a black dress. You can never go wrong with a black dress.

This is a probably a silly question, but for Perth Cup it says I have to wear "tailored black trousers" - what does that mean? Would that just be the same type of pants I wear to work at IGA/that every single girl wears to work at a supermarket, the dressy kind of business pants that you can buy from Roads? Do they just use the word "tailored" to differentiate them from, say, trackies or yoga pants?

Yeah, I'd say they're just using it to make sure you aren't going to rock up in trackies. Like officewear pants, I can't think of another way to describe it!

I bought a Garfunkle dress from Melbourne because it was so ridiculously cheap but just now I looked at the tag and it says it's dryclean only. Shiiit. It's made of cotton/spandex, why is it telling me to dryclean it? Is it just saying that because that's what designer labels do? Would it ruin it if I handwashed it in cold water?

If it says dryclean only, do NOT put it in water! Unless you want to ruin your brand new dress. Just follow the instructions, dude -they don't just say it to be "cool", haha, there's always a reason.
